I use CAD software, what hardware do I need for Autocad or Solidworks?

Autocad is the industry standard for Computer Aided Design.

As you will be using this computer for much of the working day it's important to ensure that your keyboard and mouse are ergonomic and correctly positioned for ease of use.

Choose the largest professional grade monitor that you can afford. It's a long term investment in productivity. Ask us if you're not sure what you need.

Lots of Autocad tools are single threaded. It's essential to have performance cores above 3 GHz. The i5 13400F is a good starting point. At the middle range an i5 14600 with liquid cooling is better and an I7 would be excellent.

As regards RAM 16 Gb or 32 Gb of fast DDR5 helps to get the most out of your software. DDR4 is now dearer (and slower) than DDR5 so it doesn't make sense to use it.

In terms of motherboards, the Gigabyte B760 DS3H is a good value motherboard with fast connectivity and a 2.5 Gb network card. It has 4 memory slots for expansion up to 192 Gb.

A 1 Tb m.2 drive such as the Samsung 990 Pro will make the OS very responsive in use. Consider having a second m.2 drive for temp and swap use. Older projects can be offloaded to a 4 Tb SSD or larger HDD.

Don't forget to use cloud backup and a local NAS or File Server would greatly improve your disaster resilience.

2D models only require a basic graphics card. It's the 3D models that need GPU acceleration. You can use a gaming graphics card such as the GeForce 3060 or above, just check that it's supported first.

For peace of mind use an NVIDIA A2000 for professional engineering work. The faster A4000 and A6000 models will give you better performance at a cost. Ask yourself, how much is your time worth?

Your ACL workstation will provide many years of productive service, earning it's keep every day.
